Philanthropic Support & Dedicated Funds

Mid Atlantic Retina Physicians, in conjunction with Wills Eye Hospital are inventing the eye care standards of tomorrow.

Retina Research Fellowship

The Wills Eye Retina Service is home to one of the most dynamic retina research programs in the world. Each year, our team produces hundreds of peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and scientific contributions that advance the care of patients with retinal disease.

This work is made possible by a collaborative team of 30 dedicated retina specialists, supported by exceptional research staff, medical students, ophthalmology residents, and clinical retinal fellows.

Our full-time Retina Research Fellowship plays a vital role in this mission. Through this program, we train and mentor outstanding physician-scientists from across the United States and around the globe—equipping them with the skills to drive innovation and improve retina care worldwide. Philanthropic support ensures the continued success and growth of this fellowship, directly impacting patients under our care as well as those far beyond our walls.

Dedicated Funds

As Mid Atlantic Retina Physicians, we have a sense of commitment to improve clinical care, to push forward the boundaries of research, and to train the next generation of people who will ensure the eye health of people throughout the world.

The only way we can fully realize our potential is with the support of our courageous patients and philanthropists, the people who have the foresight to understand these challenges. There’s a huge amount to learn about preserving and improving sight and we want to keep this edge in terms of moving things forward. On-going research support, funded by donations, is needed in order to accomplish that.

J. Arch McNamara Memorial Fund

The McNamara Fund was created to honor our dear colleague and friend, Dr. J. Arch McNamara. Dr. McNamara passed away in 2010 and his kindness, compassion, infectious laughter, and love of life have been sorely missed throughout our practice. Dr. McNamara brought a deep commitment to his patients and he demonstrated on a daily basis what it took to be a great physician.

The McNamara Fund, created in his honor at Wills Eye Hospital, continues his legacy of resident and fellow education and research.

This fund, part of the Retinal Degeneration Center at Wills Eye, will support exciting evolutions in the treatment of a wide variety of devastating retinal degenerative diseases under the direction of the Larry Donoso, MD, PhD Endowed Chair in Retina. The Retinal Degeneration Center was established to coordinate efforts to advance science and inspire breakthroughs in the discovery of innovative retinal disease treatments, including gene therapy and stem cell therapy.

Your gift will help sustain our efforts to prevent blindness and improve vision for countless individuals who come to Wills Eye from around the world.
