See a Wills Eye Diabetic Eye Doctor

Mid Atlantic Retina / Wills Eye Physicians and diabetic eye doctors are recognized worldwide as leading experts in the treatment of diabetic eye diseases, including diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema. We work in partnership with each patient to create a customized diabetic retinopathy treatment plan to help provide the best possible individual outcomes.

Diabetic Retinopathy is the most common eye disease and a leading cause of vision loss in the 37 million adults living with diabetes in the United States. It is the most common cause of vision impairment for working-age adults. The longer someone has diabetes mellitus, the more likely they will develop diabetic retinopathy, and after 25 years, nearly all people with diabetes mellitus will show some signs of diabetic retinopathy. Pioneering Research in Diabetic Retinopathy Treatment

We have helped trail-blaze many of the current standard-of-care treatments, and we’re continually working to develop the next new treatment for diabetic retinopathy. We help improve the quality of treatments available nationally, and for over 50 years, have dedicated ourselves to the unmet needs of patients with retinal diseases.

Our physicians are national leaders in dozens of studies that improve both our understanding of Diabetic Retinopathy as well as our ability to treat this condition. We conduct research at multiple office locations.

  • "I would say that Mid Atlantic Retina is the best medical practice I have ever encountered. In the eight years of treatment there, I have found every employee to be well-informed, efficient, and personable. It seems that the employee selection or training prioritizes charm! Visits to Mid Atlantic Retina are actually a pleasure!" - Sarah C.
  • "I have been having problems for two years now with my vision, mostly regarding floaters. I have been to two other eye doctors who all said the same thing - “I don’t see anything. I don’t see what you are talking about” or “your eyes look fine. Maybe it’s just ocular migraines and you're imagining the floaters from the migraines." I have seen the same floaters every day, and I was beginning to think maybe I’m just crazy and seeing things that aren’t there. Dr. Spirn and his staff truly listened to what I had to say and fully tested my vision and eyes. Dr. Spirn confirmed he could also see the floaters and settled my nerves. I had been anxious for two years about what was happening. No one could give me answers until I came here. I really wanted to cry tears of joy for finally being listened to, taken seriously, and getting answers. Thank you to Dr. Spirn and his staff!" - Jennifer R.
  • "Dr. Chiang made me feel very confident & appreciate the time he took with me and didn’t make me feel like just a number. It’s important to have that feeling that you are in good hands these days and he most definitely did that including the staff I interacted with. Very pleased and thank you for making me feel good about being cared for here." - Shayla M.
