The Annual American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Conference was held in Orlando from October 18 to October 20 and many of our Mid Atlantic Retina doctors were invited to give lectures, moderate panels, and lead instructional courses, as leaders in the retina community.
Jason Hsu, MD presented “Myopic Retinopathy” at an symposium entitled “Myopia: A Near and Far-sighted View.” Dr. Hsu was also selected to become chair of the AAO Communications Advisory Committee and received the AAO Senior Achievement Award.
Omesh Gupta, MD, and Meera Sivalingam, MD were instructors at the “Secondary IOL Techniques for Retinal Specialists” course.
Ajay Kuriyan, MD discussed nonexudative age-related macular degeneration in a panel
Sunir Garg, MD, Retina Section chair for the conference, presented several talks on photodynamic therapy for age-related macular degeneration and chorioretinal disease, diabetic retinopathy, endophthalmitis, hemorrhages and neovascular age-related macular degeneration, and ethical patient communication.
Carl Regillo, MD presented “Intravitreal Injections: Too Many Needles, Too Much Burden—Why It’s Time for Sustained-Release Therapy.”
Wills Eye Hospital held “Meet the Experts” sessions. From our team, Allen Ho, MD presented a discussion on the future of gene therapy.
Dr. Ho, program director of Eyecelerator, moderated a presentation on the future of AI in diagnostics and robotics in surgery and treatment. He also gave an update on therapies for retinitis pigmentosa.

Dr Brett Foxman, Dr Scott Foxman, Dr Thomas Margolis and Dr Daniel Connors will continue to treat patients at the Northfield, Vineland and Cape May Court House locations.
