Regillo to Receive ASRS Founders Award

Congratulations to Dr. Carl Regillo, who is being honored with the 2020 American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) Founders Award. Dr. Regillo, Mid Atlantic Retina physician and Chief of Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital, has been named a “Top Doctor” by Philadelphia Magazine and was chosen as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world of ophthalmology in 2020. “This is truly a great honor to be this year’s recipient of the American Society of Retina Socialists (ASRS) Founders Award. It is among one of the most prestigious awards in the field of retina.” Dr. Regillo says of this recognition, “I am humbled knowing all of the recipients that came before me are giants in the field.”

The ASRS Founders Award is presented to individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of vitreoretinal surgery, treatment, research, surgical instrumentation, and patient care. It was first presented in 1997 to honor the ASRS’s founders, Drs. Jerald A. Bovino, Roy A. Levit, and Allen Z. Verne, for their foresight, dedication, and leadership in establishing the Society as an open, democratic, worldwide organization dedicated to the advancement of vitreoretinal surgery and the study of vitreoretinal diseases.

Dr. Regillo, along with several other Mid Atlantic Retina physicians, will be presenting at this year’s virtual conference, held later this month. “The ASRS annual meeting is one that all of us in retina look forward to because it is always has the latest breakthroughs in our field.”  Check back for more updates on this year’s ASRS Annual Meeting.
